Platte River Battle Royale

Racers are off with a Le Mans style start at Platte River Battle Royale and Nebraska State Mountain Bike Championship..  The race is a part of the Psycowpath Mountain Bike race series.

Race weather was near perfect with clear, sunny skies and temperature near 60 degrees.  A cool wind was blowing from the NW at up to 25 mph.  Thankfully, most of the course is in the woods which provided some shelter from the wind.

Today's photo is of the start of the Category 2 race.

Photos I have taken of the race are posted on my Race & Events photography web site.  http://win-photo.photoreflect.com.

Photos posted on the web site are proofs for ordering purposes.  When photo files are orders, I will process the original camera RAW file and touch-up in Photoshop Elements before sending the file to the customer.  Enjoy.

Platte River Battle Royale

Yesterday was a near perfect day for a bicycle ride. Over 150 riders braved the race course at Platte River State Park. Platte River Battle Royale was the 4th race in the Psycowpath Nebraska Lottery mountain bike series. Host for the race was Cycleworks/Moose's Tooth of Lincoln.

This is the 5th year I have been shooting photos of the races. One of my customers commented that I needed to change the photo composition - to get the rides AND bike in the photo. I tried to remember that as I shot photos yesterday.

The other change, the races used a "Le Mans" start of the races. Racers ran from the starting line to their bikes and on into the course.

The photo above is the start of one of the races from yesterday.

All of my photos from the race can be found on my race photo site http://win-photo.photoreflect.com.

Platte River Battle Royale

My photos of Platte River Battle Royale are published. My apologies for the out-of-focus shots in the woods.

Bike Bash 08

Last evening the road racers and mountain bike racers got together for their annual banquet. Bike Bash 08 was held in the Mallet Lodge at Platte River State Park.

The turn-out was lower than last year. The kitchen crew did an outstanding job with Spaghetti, sauce, garlic rolls, salad, cookies, & brownies.

After dinner, awards were presented to "roadies" for the Rider of the Year. Next came the mountain bike racers. Awards were presented to State Championship winners. Then came the Pyscowpath Series winners (places 3,2,1). Doug Larson is the recipient of the Psycowpath Spirit Award.

The awards were followed by a photo montage created by Tim Weiland (featuring photos by John Peterson and yours truly). Capping the evening were comments by THOR Co-Chair Kent McNeill.

If you missed it, it was a great time - good weather, good food, good program, great friends.

Update-20th. Here's the photo montage.

Platte River Battle Royale

yesterday, I needed a day off of the bike. So, did some yard work. It was needed. We did not have out Sunday Morning Ride (Dennis' bike is in the shop and John was recuperation from a wedding last night). I needed my bike/dirt fix!

Luckily, today was Platte River Battle Royale mountain bike race. Don't get fooled, I did not race - I took photos like I usually do.

Weather was great, the trail was in tip-top condition. Did some more experimenting - honing my photographic skills.

The photos are processed. (Many did not need any work.) Now I just need to post them to my web site. Trying to get that done before Black Hills Fat Tire Festival.
